AWS Certificate Examination Preparation Guide
This book is a study & preparation guide for the AWS Certificate Examination. Specifically, it focuses on the scope & level of the AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate examination.
Yunpeng is a software engineer. Thus, this guide will be presented from the perspective of a developer. The target audience would be developers who have or want to work on cloud-based, scalable, highly-available, fault-tolerant systems. However, you should find little difficulty in reading this guide if you are a SRE (site reliability engineering) engineer.
Yunpeng has passed the AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate examination on July 2nd, 2019. See his badge at here. He has compiled all his knowledge regarding the different services of AWS into this guide.
Examination Objectives
According to the official examination guide, the AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate examination is designed to test
- Define a solution using architectural design principles based on customer requirements; and
- Provide implementation guidance based on best practices to the organization throughout the lifecycle of the project.
In order to pass this examination, the candidate shall obtain knowledge in the following aspects:
- One year of hands-on experience designing available, cost-efficient, fault-tolerant, and scalable distributed systems on AWS; and
- Hands-on experience using compute, networking, storage, and database AWS services; and
- Hands-on experience with AWS deployment and management services; and
- Ability to identify and define technical requirements for an AWS-based application; and
- Ability to identify which AWS services meet a given technical requirement; and
- Knowledge of recommended best practices for building secure and reliable applications on the AWS platform; and
- An understanding of the basic architectural principles of building on the AWS cloud; and
- An understanding of the AWS global infrastructure; and
- An understanding of network technologies as they relate to AWS; and
- An understanding of security features and tools that AWS provides and how they relate to traditional services
Examination Format
The AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate examination is 130 minutes in length. The candidate has to answer 60 scenario-based questions, each of which is either
- Multiple-choice question: choose 1 correct answer out of 4 options; or
- Multiple-response question: choose 2 correct answers out of 5 options.
This examination is a pass-or-fail test. In order to pass it, one has to obtain a score of at least 720 out of 1000. Notice that the test paper may contain unscored items that are placed on the test to gather statistical information. The examination costs $150.
Since July 2014, practice examination is also available. For associate level, the practice examination would include 20 questions, which shall be done in 30 minutes. The practice examination costs $20.
